Electricity demand hits record high in Balearics

HIGH temperatures and large numbers of tourists in July have caused electrical demand in the Balearic Islands to reach record highs.

According to Consumer Group Som Energia, the use of electricity reached 694,598 MWh last month according to data from the electrical network. This is 15.7 per cent more than last year, and 7.1 per cent more than in July 2009 which had until now been the record high. 

The highest level was reached on July 29 with 24,441 Mwh, and the peak of the day was at 2pm, with 1,205 Mwh.
