ONE of the UK’s most wanted fugitives, on the run for more than a year, has been arrested in San Roque, the Guardia Civil has reported.
While carrying out routine checks on identity of guests at a hostel in the Taraguillas area of the town, officers found the name of Stephen Michael Shaw, a 41-year-old man from Yorkshire with a European Arrest Order in place for suspected burglary.
After waiting for the suspect, who had taken no steps to hide his identity, the officers arrested him and he was sent to Madrid to await judges’ orders.
Last year Crimestoppers offered rewards for information on the whereabouts of the suspect and another man, named as Stephen Russell Berry. The pair are believed to be responsible for approximately 30 burglaries in six UK counties including Lincolnshire and North Yorkshire.
