No fireworks for Beniopa and Santa Ana

THE fiesta celebrations in the neighbourhoods of Beniopa and Santa Ana did without fancy firework displays this weekend in order to minimise the risk of fire.
As the region swelters in temperatures exceeding an average of 35 degrees the local fiesta committee decided to take stringent precautions on the advice of the Gandia Fire Service, based nearby.
Scrub and forested areas are tinder dry, susceptible to the smallest spark. In Beniopa a glittering firework display was planned for July 24, 25 and 26 but was cancelled in the interests of safety.
