Breaker’s yard for fire-damaged yacht bound for Villajoyosa

BOUND for the breaker’s yard

A YACHT that caught fire recently in the Aguadulce marina belonged to Jose Marco Morell from Villajoyosa (Alicante).
The luxury craft, Ocram Dos, which was refuelling at the time, was towed away to prevent the fire from spreading to the nearby pumps. Owing to the virulence of the blaze it was taken to Almeria harbour where it sank despite the efforts of firemen and the Salvamento Maritimo salvage unit.
Only a section of the bows remained above water and the boat has now been raised although according to the divers and specialists who brought it to the surface, it is likely to be scrapped.
Fortunately the yacht’s huge fuel tanks withstood the fire and there was no spillage from the 10,000-litres of gasoil it carried.
The Ocram Dos was registered in Vigo (Galicia) where owner Morell now runs two factory-ships and six trawlers.
The yacht broke its journey in Aguadulce only to take on fuel before spending the summer in Villajoyosa, where Morell still maintains his original business of manufacturing fishing nets and mooring ropes.
