STILL trying to squeeze in to your swimwear for the summer? Then be careful. Experts have warned that the so called ‘operation bikini’ can have a negative effect on your health and a rebound effect on your weight.
The Department of Endocrinology and Nutrition at Valencia’s Hospital La Fe said it would be desirable to follow a proper diet all year rather than due to aesthetic pressure trying to achieve in a month what should be done in 12 months: “Maintaining a healthy weight through good nutrition and regular exercise should be a constant and a proper diet and healthy lifestyle are life insurances against possible diseases.”
The centre also stressed that whilst crash dieting quickly for the summer, important food groups could be missed leading to the loss of nutritional benefits. This may help quick weight loss but it would be temporary and could then later have an adverse effect on weight.
For correct and consistent weight loss they recommend seeing a nutritionist to find the correct plan for you. During the summer it is recommended to drink two litres of water every day and eat smaller meals and more often, being cautious of tempting ice creams and fancy cocktails, high in sugar and calories.
