A PRIVATE jet carrying five people had to carry out an emergency landing at Son Sant Joan Airport.
The jet, registered in Germany was coming from Essen to Palma, and alerted the control tower of a problem with the undercarriage, and the emergency protocol was activated.
Fifteen firefighters were on the runway when the plane landed on its nose and slid around two kilometres before stopping. No serious damage was caused, no-one was injured and the firefighters were not needed.
One passenger was taken to hospital by ambulance due to a preexisting condition for which he was being accompanied by a medical team from Germany.
The southern runway was closed for an hour while the plane was removed and remains from the accident were cleaned away. Activity at the airport was not affected.
