SCHOOL MEALS: School dining facilities will be available in September

AUTHORITIES are working to ensure that school canteens stay open in both September and July to ensure children from needy families will have a meal.
Valencia region’s minister of education, Vicent Marza, said: “It is our intention to ensure that no child is left without eating any day. At the moment, we have calculated the money needed and we are looking at ensuring the scholarships are there.”
Throughout this summer, with the Alicante Province summer camp programme created by the former Ministry of Social Welfare, thousands of students in precarious economic and social situations will receive at least one daily meal, integrated into organised leisure activities in the schools in July, with the local community coming forward with more food for breakfast and snacks in many schools.
In August, as is the case of the City of Alicante, it has pledged to send food home to families.
Marza, from the Compromis party, said it was part of their and the PSOE’s election programmes to offer “totally free” dining for families on incomes below the minimum wage and consider it a “key priority.”
