Mayor in Valencia bullfighting row receives death threats

DEATH threats were posted on social media pages against the Mayor of Paiporta in Valencia after the town hall had announced that they would no longer subsidise bullfighting.
Almost immediately, pro-bullfighting Facebook users posted angry responses on the previous mayor Vicente Ibor’s page, with some threatening to kill the current mayor, Isabel Martin, with one poster stating, “Just like she took the bulls away from us, I will kill her.”
Former mayor Ibor had himself complained about the new mayor’s plans, calling them “unacceptable” and comparing the decision to “kidnapping someone in their own home.”
Mayor Martin has stated that the cut in subsidies did not mean that bullfighting was prohibited but that the money saved would be used for social emergencies, which she promised in her election campaign.
