JUZCAR: Went blue from head to toe, including the Santa Catalina church

JUZCAR, better known as the Smurf Village, is celebrating the fourth anniversary of its new look and life.
June 16 is a special date that will probably remain in Juzcar history. That was the day, back in 2001, that the village went blue, Smurf blue.
The sleepy village in the Serrania de Ronda’s Genal Valley was about to be revitalised in a shockingly large and bright way.
After agreeing to host the launch of promotion of the new Smurfs movie, the entire place, from town hall to church, was painted and the new era of Juzcar began.
Although locals were given the choice of going white again after the promotion events ended, they decided to stay blue and it looks like it was the best decision if the number of visitors from all over and new businesses springing up are anything to go by.
Although celebrations continue, the exact date of the village’s rebirth in blue was marked with a party, and visiting Norwegian musicians from the Sunde School Band dressed up as Smurfs and paraded through the streets to mark the event.
