OFFICERS of the Royal Gibraltar Police have foiled a human trafficking ring operating in the Costa del Sol.A criminal group that was engaged in human trafficking has been uncovered by the RGP and the Borders and Coastguard Agency. The group were apparently using fraudulent methods to trick the immigration services of Spain, Gibraltar and the UK, in order to move people to Britain via Gibraltar airport. After the arrest of two Albanian nationals attempting to travel on falsified documents to the UK last month, an investigation was launched which led to the discovery of a third man suspected of organising the human trafficking. As a result of this, a liaison and surveillance operation with the Spanish immigration police was set in place. Subsequently, four further arrests were made on separate occasions which also led to the arrest of the organiser.Police Commissioner Ian McGrail, has praised the efforts employed by the RGP and BCA officers saying, “what a great example of cross-border policing this has been.”
