It’s a FAB, FAB world of beautiful women in Javea

SHEILA BIRD of Javea Cancer Care presents a cheque for €500 to FAB Coordinator Bars Bullen.

FABULOUS and Beautiful Costa Blanca (FAB) held its debut meeting hosted by Tina Jones of Javea’s popular Hair and Beauty Academy H20 last week, kicking off with a generous cheque for €500 from Javea Cancer Care presented by Charity Volunteer Sheila Bird.
Under the leadership of coordinator, Bars Bullen, FAB is all about making women who have suffered or who are suffering with cancer look good and feel good, inside and out.
FAB provides free practical help, support and advice for ladies who have gone through invasive surgery, chemotherapy, steroids, radiation therapy and other treatments that combat cancer. Many are left bereft by cancer, feeling lost in their new bodies and appearance, unable to cope with what has happened to them.
FAB is a friendly band of professional beauty therapists and style experts giving hope to vulnerable women who might otherwise feel their looks have gone forever.
“So much can be done to help you feel good again,” says Bars. “We can advise on how to improve skin discolouration, how to camouflage red spots that appear with invasive chemotherapy, how to choose wigs and hair pieces, false eyelashes, tattooed eyebrows… there is a wealth of help waiting for anyone feeling isolated after cancer treatment. Just come along to one of our meetings.”
At such an event one might expect to see victims. Not at all – these are strong, vibrant, attractive women with plenty of funny stories to tell! The group is great fun, colourful, practical, chatty, warm and welcoming. There are wigs to try, fashions that flatter, advice on where to buy things, where to be measured for prosthetic bras, and practical lessons on cunning camouflage.
The centre of attraction was a ‘Knitted Knocker’ sample prosthetic, ingeniously made entirely of baby wool, brought along by a member of the Javea Baptist Church, hand crafted by volunteer knitters!
FAB will be holding regular monthly meetings at H20, where ladies can go along and meet the professionals, who teamed up after meeting at the Homes, Gardens & Lifestyle Show at the Denia Marriott in April: Bars Bullen, coordinator; Sue Faulkner, lingerie; Angela Zwaga, stylist; Tina Jones, hair and beauty; Nadine Heywood, nutritionist and Lynwen Buntrock, Cancer Care.
Call Tina at H20 for information on the next meeting: 966 461 158.
