The changing face of Spanish voters

TODAYS elections may mark a generational change in the vote, in which the younger population show more support to emerging parties such as Ciudadanos and Podemos.

The latest polls underscore the “hipermovilisación” of the youth vote, which points to a rise in the participation of five points from the municipal and regional elections of 2011 and draw a multiple fracture of the vote.

Jose Juan Toharia, president of Metroscopia, sums it up: “The young voter, urban, occupationally active and influential lean toward Ciudadanos and Podemos. The older, rural, conservative, with unpaid activities and decreasing influence errs toward the PP and PSOE.”
