A BOAT belonging to an English resident of Torrox Costa had to be refloated after it ran aground at the town’s El Peñoncillo beach.
The man, who was sailing for the first time aboard the newly purchased craft, decided to drop anchor in the area and reach the shore in a smaller boat.
While spending the afternoon with relatives and friends, he noticed the waves started swelling and he attempted to return to the 12-metre-long boat, but was unsuccessful.
He then alerted Salvamento Maritimo (Spanish sea search and rescue service) as well as Guardia Civil and Local Police, but before their arrival the boat’s anchor broke and the boat was pushed into the El Faro cliffs.
Fortunately, the craft ran aground at the Cala del Corral de las Vacas, were it remained safely.
The boat experienced minor damage and was taken by Salvamento Maritimo to the Caleta de Velez Port.
