Work begins in Mijas to prevent summer fires spreading

MIJAS employment scheme workers are busy in Entrerrios clearing up and creating fire breaks to reduce the risk of forest fires spreading this summer.
Rural Areas councillor Cristobal Gonzalez explained during a visit to the area: “This work is extremely important as in these areas a simple spark can result in tragedy if scrub is allowed to grow out of control. We’re also creating fire breaks between plots and the streams so that if fire does break out it is less likely to spread.”
Work started in the Fuente La Teja stream area and will continue to the area of Rio Ojen and La Cala Resort.
Once these areas are finished, work will move to the Rio Gomenaro, the racecourse, Lagar Martel and Maria Zambrano streams.
