Protest on wheels against Torremolinos skate ban

ANGRY skaters and their supporters will be out in force in Torremolinos tomorrow, April 25, to protest against a local ban on skating in public.

Although the ban was brought in more than two years ago by the council, which claimed that skaters caused damage and frightened pedestrians, it is still causing rows in the town.

The rule, which bans the use of roller skates and skateboards in all public areas, allows fines of between €600 and €15,000 and is firmly followed by the local police force.

To complain about the ban, a protest on wheels has been called at noon tomorrow by the Andalucista political party. Protestors on skates, skateboards and bicycles will be gathering outside the town hall and travelling through town to La Nogalera to call for fines to be withdrawn and the ban lifted.
