A FRANCO-ERA crest will be removed from the main entrance to Almeria City’s Celia Viñas school.
The wrought-iron eagle, a symbol of the previous regime, will be cut away from the decorative grillwork over the door. It is should disappear before the end of the month, confirmed Isabel Arevalo, the regional government’s Education delegate.
Culture department personnel inspected the crest in January, taking photographs and estimating the date when it was installed, Arevalo explained.
Having established that the emblem was a later addition to the grillwork, it can be removed with a minimum of official formalities and without involving the regional Heritage Commission, she said
