SIX administrative assistants in health centres spanning the Department of Torrevieja have been dismissed as part of a restructuring of Torrevieja Health, the company managing the department.
They said the dismissals are justified due to the decrease in the population and, in theory, a decrease in the number of patients visiting health centres thanks to the introduction of electronic prescriptions.
However, unions have dismissed these claims and have denounced the dismissals warning that today most hospital services and health centres have, “low minimum personnel and that these redundancies cause a major deficiency in the quality of patient care.”
Torrevieja Hospital and its network of centres now serves 156,000 potential users assigned the department health card with residents in Torrevieja, Guardamar, Orihuela Costa, Rojales, Formentera, Rojales, Pilar de la Horadada, San Fulgencio, San Miguel and Los Montesinos. The Department of Torrevieja has 1,100 employees.
