NEW QUEENS: Royalty crowned in Benidorm.
THE marquee in the Plaza de los Reyes de España in Benidorm was the scene of the sparkling coronation of the town’s new festival queens on Saturday.
The new queens were welcomed by outgoing royalty María Pérez Modrego and Megan Butterton. The new court comprises of 19 young ladies and 22 girls.
The mayor of Benidorm, Agustín Navarro, and Councillor for Fiestas, Cristina Escoda, were among the dignitaries and guests.
Mayor Navarro took the stage to thank the outgoing queens and princesses for their work representing the city in 2014 and congratulate the new queens.
“You are already part of the history of Benidorm,” he said. “The Queens of the 275th Anniversary of the discovery of the Virgin of the Suffrage. I would like to wish our new queens a full and happy reign, especially significant in this important anniversary year.”
As always, the Unión Musical de Benidorm and the Choral Society of the city accompanied the celebrations which concluded with a stage finale that included all the festive and cultural associations of the city.
A majestic firework display rounded up a memorable evening.
