Financial crisis saturates Costa del Sol courts

SPAIN and the Costa del Sol may be over the worst of economic crisis, but more than 270,000 people and businesses have begun court cases to recover small debts within the region.

Small debts in this case may well refer to unpaid sums of up several thousand euros, a very significant amount for small businesses and self-employed individuals.

The large number of cases has saturated local courts, with approximately 50 per cent of Costa del Sol proceedings now related to such debt-recovery actions.
