YET again Alberts Restaurant in Cabopino Port hosted another successful wine tasting event on February 25 where wine lovers gathered to taste the fine combinations of food and drink.
On arrival all guests were greeted with a perfect aperitif of sparkling rose Cava and a handshake from the wine maestro himself, Fabri Anton and also restaurant manager Olivier Berton.
We were later served with four different courses of wine and food that harmonised well with them, and this is where the tastings really came into their own perfection.
No wonder Albert’s pride the Certificate of Excellence for two years running now as these guys really know their game.
Firstly Fabri talked everyone through the origins of the wine and why they were so named.
The sparkling Cava that many of us enjoy here in Spain is called Cava simply because it is fermented and stored in Caves and in effect Cava is the same family as Champagne. Each wine was served in courses together with an excellent choice of cuisine prepared by the naturally talented chef, Jason Coupe.
The selected dishes such as the goats cheese salad with honey dressing was to die for, and the well known red wine, Marques de Caceres matched up perfectly with the array of sea bass. Other wines flowed such as a very smooth Oyster Shack.
This is a Merlot, but is a wine that is supplied to restaurants and bars because it is perfect with food. Some house wines are cheaper because they are designed to be drunk on their own and so the preparation time is much shorter and hence that reflects on the price, not the quality.
These events have been a winner from day one, what a pleasant way to spend a cool evening, in good company, good food, and a taste of history about your favourite tipple.
