TWO mortar grenades found in the Mar Menor were successfully deactivated by an explosives unit from the Navy.

The unexploded grenades were found by trainee Navy divers near Los Alcazares as they were taking part in an underwater search training exercise 250 metres from the coast.

The students immediately implemented the safety precautions and the area was sealed off by buoys as a diver unit deactivated the two 60mm shells before removing them from the water.
