EIGHT pro-Russian Spanish fighters have been arrested.
In co-ordinated operations in Murcia, Navarre, Catalonia, Asturias and Madrid, Spanish National Police swooped to detain the men.
The arrested, all aged under 30, were members of a variety of pro-communist organisations.
They are all currently being held and are suspected of fighting for pro-Russian forces in the Donbass region of Ukraine – a region which has bloody conflict of the last few months in the current Crimean crisis. The crisis is currently supposed to be held under a ceasefire agreed by the UN and both Ukraine and Pro-Russian forces, however with reports of fighting continuing into the last week, the ceasefire has been very fragile at best.
The men are facing a variety of charges including weapons possession and murder.
