CIRCUS animals and fairground pony attractions will be officially banned from Malaga City.
As reported by EWN last December when Mayor Francisco de la Torre announced the measure, the city’s January plenary session held yesterday (January 29) approved a motion to ban circuses using animals and fairground attractions using ponies from the city.
The motion was put forward by the city council in response to increased pressure by animal protection associations which maintain that circus animals are mistreated.
Fairground attractions that force ponies to walk in small circles for hours on end have also been banned due to the physical and emotional strain the animals have to bear.
Another motion approved concerned stray cats, which will be neutered and vaccinated to improve their health and eventually reduce the numbers living on city streets.
