GOLF INTERNATIONAL NERJA SOCIETY (GINS) has enjoyed a hugely successful run-up to Christmas with a number of events at different courses providing members with a variety of ups and downs and varying weather conditions.
An individual Stableford/Turkey Trot at Los Mariscos saw John Ridley finish first, followed by Alan Worthington and Peter Oram. The beautiful sunshine led the golfers to think they were in the springtime rather than winter, a feeling that quickly changed when they tucked into festive mince pies while awaiting the results.
A Christmas Cracker Stableford game at Anoreta ended up with Brian Lynch, Malcolm Jones and Peter Garner finishing in that order on a course still wet from recent rains. Changing conditions throughout the day made it a testing time for the players.
At Baveria, the cold wind sweeping the course was more like the Antarctic than Andalucia, but players persevered and Brian Wiggins and George Reed were rewarded for their troubles, finishing on a creditable 38 points. Pepe Gil scooped the €70 rollover by scoring the only two of the day.
