Benedict Cumberbatch engaged

SHERLOCK star Benedict Cumberbatch has announced his engagement to theatre director Sophie Hunter.

It was reported by The Mail On Sunday that the actor flew to Edinburgh to ask permission to marry from Miss Hunter’s mother, to whom she is very close since her parents’ divorce.

The engagement of the pair was officially announced in The Times newspaper due to Cumberbatch’s parents purchasing an advertisement in the marriages section.

The actor has been linked to several Hollywood starlets recently, including Star Trek co-star Alice Eve and actress Liv Tyler.

Although we have seen the couple previously, it is apparent that Miss Hunter wants to keep her distance from the limelight as they have frequently avoided being seen together since they met in 2009, when they starred opposite each other in theatre production Burlesque Fairytales.
