THE Mayor of Palma has confirmed that he will not be running for re-election come voting time next May.
Ending weeks of speculation, Mateo Isern confirmed that he will not be putting his name forward for the ballot due to the fact that he cannot rely on the “unanimous support of the party”.
It is believed that the Partido Popular member informed his party a number of weeks ago of his decision, but wanted to speak with party officials in Madrid before making his announcement public.
Speculation has been rife that Isern had a falling out with President of the Balearics Jose Ramon Bauza, who announced a few months ago his preference for an alternative candidate to run for mayor.
