Ashya King
Ashya King, the five year old cancer sufferer has returned to Spain for treatment at the International HC Marbella Hospital in Andalucia.
Ashya and his family found themselves at the centre of an international manhunt two months ago, when Southampton Hospital authorities reported the family to the Police, accusing them of taking Ashya away from the hospital without permission and endangering Ashya’s life.
The subsequent ‘manhunt’ led to the King family being tracked down to Malaga province and Ashya’s parents arrested and remanded to Madrid. After common sense prevailed Ashya’s parents were released and the family took the young boy to Prague for proton therapy treatment.
According to Malaga daily Malaga Hoy, Ashya attended his first physiotherapy sessions at the hospital this morning under the care of Argentinian Doctor, Hernán Cortés-Funes, the head of the Oncology Unit at the HC Marbella.
A hospital spokeswoman explained, “There has been a noticeable improvement in Ashya’s condition after he received proton radiation treatment in Prague and he is already playing with objects.”
According to the King family lawyer, Juan Isidro Fernandez, the family have decided to return to Spain, where they have a cottage in the village of Casares nearby Marbella- and where Ashya’s older brothers are in school. Juan Isidro Fernandez said, the family “are here for a long stay to continue with Ashya’s physiotherapy treatment.”
