The new Happy Haddock in Fuengirola is there to put a happy smile on your face

ONLY a few things can bring you back to the UK, and one of them is an authentic fish and chips supper.

The Happy Haddock in Fuengirola has recently opened to offer customers a real taste of traditional, good quality UK food. Jason Maidment, owner, said: “I am not new to this business at all. In fact my father had a chip shop and was master fryer of the year on a few occasions.

Although he helped his father, Jason became a qualified electrical technician. Both Jason and his partner Eileen, a teacher, left their jobs looking for a better lifestyle and weather in Spain and they found the perfect place right in the centre of Fuengirola.

“The restaurant is just off the seafront. It is not just a takeaway place, it has a seating area for 22 people indoors and a terrace that can accommodate up to 16 people,” said Jason.

“We have had a very encouraging start,” he added. “Not only do we have UK customers but we have locals and Scandinavian clients looking to taste our food.

For his new venture, Jason is using only fresh cod, plaice and haddock, with no cheaper variations included. Many of the products used are brought from the UK such as gravies, curries and peas, whereas he was fortunate enough to borrow his father’s secret batter recipe to use.

Their delicious pies in all flavours are kept in the pie warmer to be enjoyed at any time fresh and full of flavour.

Their current offers will keep pockets as well as stomachs happy.

A small cod, chips, peas, a slice of buttered bread, English tea or Nescafe and dessert all for €5.95.

Their dinner for two special for only €20 includes two large cod, chips, peas and a litre bottle of wine.

They are open Monday to Saturday from 1pm to 11pm.
