Nerja Town Council has removed 1,200 kilos of rubbish from two illegal settlements in an area known as Cuevas de Traqueones.
Cleaners working for the council were assisted by Nerja’s Local Police force in a clean-up operation that took place early on Wednesday morning, October 1.
Three trucks were needed to shift the rubbish, the majority of which came from one of the two settlements.
The move comes as a continuation of a campaign to tidy up the area by removing or regulating the many different illegal shanty towns set up in secluded areas in Axarquía.
In the last three months there have been half a dozen such operations in areas including Los Carabineros, El Playazo and La Cueva del Lobo Marino.
