THE stormy, autumnal weather has caused damage at various points around Malaga’s coastline.
A chiringuito on the Madrid de Almayate beach in Velez-Malaga has been badly damaged as a consequence of the bad weather which has blighted the coast since last weekend.
The loss of sand along Velez-Malaga’s beaches due to the storms which hit the area last Easter has provoked further erosion of the coastline, and stormy ocean swells have undermined the seawall, leading to a large section of the chiringuito’s terrace to collapse.
The owners of the bar have said that they have spent the last four months asking the council for permission to build a new wall in order to avoid such a scenario as in which they find themselves now. They estimate the cost of the damage to be in the region of €100,000.
Further along the coast, strong winds and tides caused minor damage in Benalmádena, but with autumn just beginning, businesses are bracing themselves for further bad weather.
