Nerja Town Hall has temporarily closed part of the pedestrian walkway along the coast after a small amount of earth fell from beneath the Balcón de Europa (Balcony of Europe).
In a statement, Nerja’s representative for infrastructure, Antonio García, said that a ‘small displacement of earth’ was seen to take place underneath the Balcony’s platform, resulting in the walkway being closed below. The emergency services were informed of the situation.
García went on to say that although renovation work to area had to start immediately, there was no cause for alarm or worry.
The Balcón de Europa is one of the area’s most iconic structures, featuring heavily in hit Spanish TV show from the 80s, Verano Azul.
