Arnie’s back

THE TERMINATOR is back, but perhaps not in the way many expected, as Madrid name Arnold Schwarzenegger their first honorary ambassador for tourism.

The 67-year-old actor and ex-governor of California has been asked by Spanish tourism officials to encourage more foreign tourists to visit the capital.

Although the appointment may seem baffling to some, the Austrian-born actor does have a connection to Spain.

The 1982 film Conan the Barbarian was filmed on location in the deserts of Almeria. The film was a major success, taking in €237 million at the box office.

Arnie will be back in the city later this month on Sunday September 28 in order to inaugurate a star in his honour on Almeria’s Paseo de las Estrellas (Walk of the Stars).

The tourism office obviously feels that with Arnie’s support, their next tourism campaign will be unstoppable.
