CABO DE GATA Natural Park is popular not only for tourism but also in the film industry. Once again it has been used for the silver screen.
Spain’s El Niño movie, selected as one of three movies to represent Spain in the 87th edition of the Academy Awards for the Best Foreign Language Film category had a number of water based scenes filmed at Cabo de Gata.
All the night sea chases were filmed at Nijar, as well as some daytime scenes. A boat is sunk to mislead police at the entrance to the port at San Jose. Shipments of drugs are filmed at Cala de Media Luna.
In another scene, where drugs are apparently being bought in Ketama, filming was carried out in San Jose, at the top of Calle Anzuelo.
Action movie El Niño , directed by Mallorcan-born Daniel Monzon, tells the story of Jesus, a small-time drug trafficker working in the Gibraltar Straits.
The film also stars British actor Ian McShane. The movie has sliced through any Spanish competition this year in terms of revenue.
