Eastenders actor John Bardon dies

JOHN BARDON, known to millions of Eastenders fans as Jim Branning has died at the age of 75.

His death comes seven years after a stroke that left him, in recent years, needing round the clock care. His last appearance in Eastenders was three years ago, when ironically his character was killed off, with the disappearance due to a stroke.

Bardon was a regular on the show since 1999, when he married Dot Cotton.

His acting performances, accredited him with awards and nominations in a variety of categories. Best Couple at the Inside Soap Awards in 2005 for Best Comedy, Best On-Screen Partnership in 2002 and a nomination for Best Comedy Performance in the British Soap Awards.

He also awarded the Olivier Award for best musical actor in 2008, for his stage role in Kiss Me, Kate.
