Hamilton wins Italian Grand Prix

LEWIS HAMILTON has clinched victory in the Italian Grand Prix at Monza by passing Mercedes’ teammate Nico Rosberg, ignoring instructions from Mercedes to hold back.

The victory means that Hamilton has shaved seven points off the German’s lead: from 29 to 22 points.

Hamilton started terribly due to problems with his car. A problem with his DRS resulted in him dropping from pole position to fourth, being passed by Rosberg, Kevin Magnussen and Felipe Masa.

Two and a half seconds behind Rosberg, Hamilton was instructed to stay behind him and not attempt to pass until the end. Hamlton seemed to ignore these instructions, however, and maintained pressure on Rosberg, finally making a successful pass on the 29th lap.

In the end, the result was fair as Hamilton has been the better driver all weekend.

This being his 28th win, Hamilton is now the second most successful British driver after Nigel Mansell.
