Friday the 13th is a special date, of which there can be no more than three in any year. This year there will be only one such occasion and it falls today.
One lucky winner could win an estimated €136 million (£109 million), the biggest jackpot up for grabs so far this year.
In France, the Lotto officials decided to celebrate the only Friday the 13th date with an extra draw, on top of the three regular draws that happen each week.
Considered an unlucky day since the 19thcentury and a modern union of two older superstitions, that the number 13 is an unlucky number and Friday is an unlucky day. The fear of Friday the 13th has been called friggatriskaidekaphobia, Frigga being the name of the Norse goddess for whom Friday is named in English and Triskaidekaphobia meaning fear of the number 13.
British ticketholders have done better than usual in 2014, with Mr Trotter of South London pocketing UK’s fourth-largest ever amount of €135 million (£107.9 million) in April, and another lucky Briton claiming a top prize worth €91 million (£73 million) a month later.
