A glamorous event with a serious aim…

Some very special guests… Over the years some top-flight entertainers have featured at the Butterfly Ball. Here are some of the acts already confirmed for 2014.

In 2002, Gareth Gates was famously runner-up to Will Young in the UK’s first Pop Idol. Instead of disappearing into pop oblivion he carved out a successful career for himself, having hit records and travelling worldwide.

It’s well known that he was Head Chorister for Bradford Cathedral Choir as a boy, even performing solo for the Queen when she visited in 1977. What’s less well known is that he has a natural gift for music and as well as being a faultless vocalist he is an accomplished musician.

In the UK alone Gareth sold 3.5 million records, released three albums and had four UK No. 1 singles.

With Gareth taking on Dancing on Ice, pantomime, documentary-making and numerous theatre roles, together with appearances at clubs and festivals, he has been wowing audiences up and down the country.

Bobby Davro is a man of many talents: comedian, impressionist, game-show host and actor who soared to fame in the 1980s. He made his straight acting debut in East Enders as the love able rogue Vinnie Monks. Versatility is the key to Bobby’s longevity as a high profile personality whether doing TV, voice-overs, pantomime, musical theatre, award presentations or late-night cabaret.

Masquerade are an outstandingly talented act, who sing and play a wide range of music. They have performed in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Greece, Israel, Germany, France, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Belgium and the UK. Linda has released many dance music tracks which can be found on iTunes. Danny and Linda have supported the Rhys Daniels Trust for many years and we are always delighted that they manage to fit us into their hectic schedule each year.

Tee Green is internationally regarded as one of the finest vocal coaches and arrangers in the music industry, whose work has taken him all over the globe. He has worked his magic on acts including Blue, Westlife, Lighthouse Family and Alexander O’Neal. Being an established vocalist in his own right, he has backed many successful singers including Kylie Minogue.

THERE is still time to join in the fun of the Rhys Daniels Trust Golf Challenge. The list of celebrities who have taken part reads like a Who’s Who of British entertainment.

La Cala resort is once more hosting the event. It tees off with practice rounds and a welcome barbeque on Friday, June 20, before two days of matches culminating with attendance at the Butterfly Ball.

It may have all the fun-filled glamour of a glittering star-studded ball, but the chance to help desperately-ill children is the serious message behind the annual Butterfly Ball.

The charity, founded by the parents of Charly and Rhys Daniels, who died tragically young, provides accommodation for the families of sick children forced to undergo treatment far away from their homes.

Again helping to spearhead the event, set for Sunday, June 22, is the Euro Weekly News, which is throwing its full weight behind this very special cause.

And it urges all readers in the Costa community to once again rally round and support not just the Rhys Daniels Trust, but through it the families of the children in a desperately stressful situation.

The aim may be serious but the night is not. A fun-filled evening with dinner at the five-star Puente Romano hotel will be followed by gala entertainment and dancing.

There is always a host of celebrities at the event and its associated golf tournament, and you never know who you might bump into.

The Butterfly Ball is one of the key fundraising events on the Rhys Daniels Trust’s event calendar. It is always a glamorous affair with a lot of celebrity support.

Previously guests have included; Pauline Quirke, Mike Osman, Gareth Gates, Stan Boardman, Des O’Connor, Bobby Davro, Jean-Christophe Novelli, Chris Eubank, Johnny Briggs, Chris Tarrant, Linda Lusardi, Ledley King, James Hewitt, Kerry Katona – to name a few.

Last year’s events raised a hugely impressive €40,000 for the Rhys Daniels Trust.

Barry Daniels, who founded the charity, said at the time: “I am so pleased with the great success of our charity golf event and Butterfly Ball.

“My utmost thanks to all who took part and for the celebrity support over the weekend.”

Actress Pauline Quirke said: “I am very proud to be a Patron of the Rhys Daniels Trust and always so gratefultoeachandeveryoneofoursupporterswhomakefundraisingeventslikethisonesuch a success.

“The work of this small charity is so important in helping hundreds of families each and every year to cope with unbearably difficult situations involving very sick children.

“If strangers can get together to have fun, party, laugh and play some golf and make a difference to the lives of the families who benefit from our ‘Homes from Home’, then that is amazing.

“I would like to say a personal thank you to everyone who supported this event, it is greatly appreciated.”

All funds raised go to support the Rhys Daniels Trust ‘Home from Home’ Appeal.
