German Chancellor Angela Merkel missed her 'phone-a-friend' call.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel might not be the best person to put down for your ‘Phone a Friend’ option… When Conservative politician Wolfgang Bosbach was struggling with a question while on a VIP-version of the TV show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, he decided to call Merkel, one of his phone-a-friend options.
However, his plan backfired as the Chancellor didn’t pick up and he was left to struggle with the tricky question – about East German washing machines – on his own.
Bosbach was twice diverted to Merkel’s voicemail, leaving his calls for help unanswered.
Just before the end of the show Mr Bosbach got a text message from the German leader apologising for missing his calls.
German news agency DPA quoted Mr Bosbach as saying he was not sure it would have been a good thing for Merkel to answer, as she may have been annoyed to be called about a quiz show question.
