UGLY PLATFORM: collectives uniting against oil prospecting.
Collectives from several Spanish communities are coming together to protest against the seismic surveys that are being done off the Spanish coasts.
They are uniting under the slogan “We have enough energy. No to prospecting.”
Protest groups from the Balearic Islands, Cataluña, Andalucia, Valencia and the Canary Islands are forming a central collective, which met in Valencia last week, to coordinate their efforts against what they are calling an environmental disaster.
The collectives are suggesting that the government look for alternative energy which would not be dependent on oil but would be based on renewable energy sources including wave power and wind power.
The collective groups are calling on the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism not to pay attention to the needs of the big oil companies but rather to the needs of society, as the result of these seismic surveys would have, in their opinion, a negative impact on the current way of life in these communities.
They are warning that the oil exploration would mean a decrease in the amount of tourism.
