Fuengirola looks to the seas

More than 1,800 people and 600 ships took part in the third Solmarina Nautical Week on the Costa del Sol, which was held over 10 days.

The main events were held at Fuengirola marina and Sailing Club, including the award-giving gala. A leisure day, with several championships and trials was held at the local River Park.

According to the President of the Western Costa del Sol Community of Municipalities, Margarita del Cid, the Costa del Sol is amongst the top destinations in Europe for sailing enthusiasts, thanks to its ports and facilities.

She also pointed out that the sector has huge financial and tourism potential, and that with this event, the Community of Municipalities aimed to give it a boost.

She said that sailing courses aimed at schoolchildren had also been held in order to reach all kinds of audiences and encourage young people to take part in sailing.
