Motion of no confidence against Orihela mayor fails

Monserrate Guillen to continue as Orihuela Mayor

A MOTION of no confidence against Orihuela Mayor Monserrate Guillen (The Greens) has failed after it was ruled out of order.

The motion of censure proposed by the Partido Popular (PP) and the two councillors from Centro Liberal (Clr), Pedro Mancebo and Juan Ignacio Lopez-Bas, failed when Councillor Bob Houliston, as president of the Council of Elders, decided the process was not possible.

So, Monserrate Guillen will continue being the mayor of Orihuela after a tense meeting. Once Houliston has announced his decision, the session was adjourned. PP councillor, Monica Lorente, had demanded a preliminary hearing.

At the conclusion of the session the PP Councillor, Pepa Ferrando, said: “This is a coup d’etat.” The PP and Clr have announced that they will take the case to the courts once they have the record of the meeting.
