A WOMAN jogger, aged 18, died after being hit by a train which she apparently could not hear coming because of headphones she was wearing.
She was running on the tracks in Torrellano, Elche, Alicante, and despite the driver insistently sounding a warning on his claxon, she failed to get out of the way. There was also noise from the nearby airport, police reported.
The accident occurred at around 8pm. As she was not carrying any ID, police asked in the neighbourhood if anyone knew who she was. Their only means of identifying her was a tattoo and a bracelet.
Thanks to social networking sites and WhatsApp, pupils at Torrellano were eventually able to name her and police broke the news to the girl’s mother at a restaurant where she was working.
