Spains recession helps discount supermarket profits

Discount supermarket Dia profits have risen due to the recession.

The Dia chain, which is a spin off from French company Carrefour, has seen profits in 2012 of over 55 per cent from the previous year. It is thought that Spain’s deep recession is the main reason.

The discount chain announced that net profit rose to €146.4 million last year from €94.4 million in 2011, on sales of €10.1 billion up from €9.7 billion.
