ANGEL CARROMERO, the leader of the New Generations branch of the conservative Partido Popular, is back at work following a few days in prison.
Carromero was sentenced in Cuba to four years in prison after a road traffic accident in which two opponents of the regime were killed.
The agreement between Spain and Cuba allowed his extradition, even though he had only spent 13 days in prison and he has now returned to his position as technical advisor to councillor Begoña Larrainzar in the district of Moratalaz, in Madrid, earning €50,500 gross per year.
“This is an enormous abuse” said Luis Miguel Lopez Reillo, secretary general of the General Workers’ Union (UGT), and explained that it is impossible to touch this amount because it is a position of confidence approved by a party which is in absolute majority.
‘In practice the position is practically non-existent and is little more than a post box for the citizens’ explained the secretary of the UGT.
Without doubt what annoys the groups most is the fact that Carromero has returned to work as if nothing had happened.
