Parents on cruelty charges

A 25-year-old Spanish woman and her partner were arrested on child cruelty charges in Palencia City.

The couple were reported to the police after hospital staff noticed that their 23-day-old son, brought in for a check-up, had marks on his neck.  His body was covered in bruises, and he was suffering from malnutrition.

The woman gave birth in the same hospital and staff, observing the mother’s attitude towards the child, had already warned social services that he could be at risk.

Police were called and the couple immediately arrested. 

Three days later the mother was remanded but the father was released, a restraining order was issued, preventing him from approaching his son.
