Gang arrests

A JOINT Policia Nacional and Guardia Civil operation involving 100 officers has dismantled Almeria’s largest crime network.

Following a month-long  investigation they arrested 20 members of the El Ejido-based gang. Of Spanish, French, Lithuanian, Russian and Ukrainian origin, they operated throughout the province and were ‘highly professional’, according to police. They were the best organised and most dangerous the province has ever known, they said.

They are charged with 17 counts of burglary, belonging to an armed gang, forgery and drugs offences. The operation remains open, police disclosed, and it was possible that the detainees could face further charges.
