Cool reception for Velez-Malaga buses

CONFUSION reigned last Monday in Velez as buses replaced trams.

Instead of the familiar trams, there are now four different bus routes and a fleet of six new buses.

Three run between Velez and Torre del Mar and another between Almayate and Caleta de Velez.

The new bus lines reach El Limonar, El Romeral and suburbs to the west of town but using the new timetables and routes was hampered by sketchy information, residents complained.

The interchange outside the Hospital was also criticised because there are no awnings at the new bus-stops and passengers have to stand in the sun.

There were further grumbles because passengers, accustomed to trams at 20-minute intervals during the rush hour, now have a 40-minute wait between buses.

Despite town hall claims that the new system is an improvement, residents pointed out that the weekday connection between Velez and Torre del Mar have been reduced from a daily 64 services to 57.
