Heartfelt thanks from HELP of Denia and Marina Alta

A HEARTSTART defibrillator was donated to HELP of Denia and Marina Alta by the Roundabout Charity shop in Javea.

It was handed over to HELP president Judith Goodall by Roundabout Charity shop president Gillian Rose.

A number of people, not always in good health, regularly visit the Help Centre in La Xara for their Monday Luncheon Club as well as coffee morning and other social activities.

In the event that someone suddenly collapses and did not respond when shaken and was not breathing, this piece of equipment could be used to treat the most common causes.

“The survival rates for sudden cardiac arrest are directly related to how soon victims receive treatment,” said Judith.

“For every minute of delay the chance of survival declines by seven to 10 per cent, so to have this piece of equipment and trained volunteers at hand could benefit a lot of people in La Xara.”

Although the equipment is not difficult to operate, Judith will be ensuring that full training is given to the volunteer Helpers and Admin staff, at the Centre where the HeartStart defibrillator will be located, and it will be few weeks before training is completed and ready for ‘all systems go’.
