THE past extravagant nature of local authorities again highlighted in a critical comment.
Denia opposition spokesman Vincent Grimalt said that of the €1.7 million spent by Gata on remodeling the main access road through the town, €60,000 of that sum was spent on four Calabrian olive trees for a roundabout.
The main complaint of Sr. Grimalt was that one of the trees has subsequently dried up and died as according to the opposition spokesman, chlorine laden water was used in irrigating the area, thus killing the tree and surrounding vegetation.
The council have not yet responded to the claim.
