FUENGIROLA Town Hall will now charge €65 to register common-law couples in the hope of stopping fraud which has been detected in the town.
In the second half of 2011, an unusually high number of registrations in the Andalucian Common Law Couples Register was detected.
This follows a change in the law which allows foreigners to obtain legal residence in Spain if they can prove they have a common-law partner already legally residing here.
The Immigration Councillor, Mari Luz Puentes, said there is a “need to set a price for this service so there is no discrimination between common-law couples and civil partnerships.”
